Alex Albon discusses factors Williams are 'outdoing' competitors on

Williams driver Alex Albon has said that he feels as though the team is ‘outdoing’ its competitors in certain aspects after another points finish in Miami.

The team from Grove has seen some positive results, particularly with Albon at the wheel, with him adding two points to his tally at the Miami Grand Prix via a 9th place finish.

This came after a strong drive in Imola that saw him narrowly miss out on points, and a top 10 finish in Melbourne before that, so it’s clear that he is feeling very much at home in the car.

And, as well as that, it seems fair to say that Williams are really nailing their strategy right now, with them taking clever, and sometimes unorthodox as they did in Australia, approaches to try and earn points.

Indeed, it’s that that Albon believes is what is giving the team a bit of an edge over some of their competitors on the grid at the moment:

“We were in the top 10 for two or three practice sessions,” Albon said after the Miami GP.

“And we were genuinely there, it wasn’t low fuel or anything like that, we were there on pure pace.

“So to get the P10 is, I feel, where we should have been all weekend. Of course, we lucked into [it] a little bit [because] of collisions with the cars in front, but we were right there behind them, catching them as well.

“It was a really strong weekend for us.

“I think if we optimise our package, we will get there [in qualifying].

“But it’s the same as everyone. I just think also, in some respects, we are doing a really good job in the races, and I feel like we are outdoing other people on tyres and strategy, and also on how we work the tyres.

“Again, that C2 [Hard compound], I did my best lap on the last lap. There’s something about that tyre that we love!”
