Aldi vs M&S - I tested UK's 'two best supermarkets' and it was an eye-opener
The nation's favourite supermarket has just been crowned in a new survey - and in a rather unexpected result Marks and Spencer taking home the honours for 2022.
In the new study by consumer magazine Which?, over 3,000 shoppers were surveyed on their favourite supermarkets, and were quizzed on a range of factors from value for money to the overall experience when inside the stores.
Rather than the traditional "big four" taking the top honours it was Marks and Spencer's Simply Food offering that has most impressed those shoppers over the past year - according to the survey, scooping a 78 per cent approval rating over the range of criteria.

And in second place? It was budget supermarket Aldi thanks to its almost unbeatable value across its range of products and a 77 per cent approval rating from shoppers.
Intriguingly, as regular customers of both stores, both Aldi and M&S predominantly sell their own-range of food products rather than branded goods - although both at very different price-points.
So to see how the "top two" measure up, I decided to head out and test both stores for shopping experience, value for money and quality of product - with my very own Aldi v M&S taste test - choosing the same ten items from each store.
Here in Greater Manchester we have a plentiful supply of both M&S food stores and Aldi supermarkets across the region.
And over at White City retail park in Old Trafford, the two rivals are handily based right next door to each other so what better location to pit the two stores against each other for the quality of the stores, service, and of course the quality of the food?
