Alan Shearer makes point about Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag after VAR’s Liverpool blunder

Alan Shearer says the failings of VAR in Liverpool’s defeat to Tottenham opens the possibility that Erik ten Hag may have been right to call Alejandro Garnacho’s offside call against Arsenal incorrect.

Garnacho thought he had won last month's game for Manchester United when he broke clear of the Gunners' defence to guide the ball home in the 89th minute at the Emirates. However, VAR adjudged the winger to have been fractionally offside and the strike was overturned.

Arsenal ultimately went on to score two stoppage-time goals to win 3-1 and Ten Hag berated the decisions of the officials post-match. "You saw the game, but it’s no offside. Wrong angle," he told Sky Sports.

"What this does is that it throws chaos
