Alan Shearer explains why Marcus Rashford is thriving for Manchester United this season

Former England striker Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford is 'relishing' the responsibility of being Manchester United's 'main man' this season, after scoring the winner in Wednesday night's 1-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Rashford netted the only goal of the game after 27 minutes, slamming the ball home from close range after connecting with Marcel Sabitzer's downward header. That was enough for the Reds to seal a return to winning ways and put a three-game winless run in the Premier League behind them.

It marked the academy graduate's 28th goal of the campaign in all competitions and his 19th at Old Trafford, meaning he became the first United player since Wayne Rooney in 2011/12 to score 19 M16 goals in a single season. He started in the centre of the front-three against the Bees after Jadon Sancho came into the side to replace Wout Weghorst, meaning the pressure was on his shoulders to deliver the goods.

And it is the pressure created by having that responsibility that Shearer believes is bringing the best out of the England international.

"Rashford is United's main man," Shearer told Premier League Productions. "Teams will go into games thinking if they can stop him, they've got a good chance of stopping United; Brentford couldn't tonight and many teams haven't been able to do it this season.

"He looks bigger and stronger and it looks like he's enjoying the pressure, the demand of being the main man and having to go out and win games for United. He's relishing it."
