Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder wary of wounded Liverpool

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder does not regard Liverpool as being more vulnerable at the moment than in recent years.

The Reds suffered the third loss of their Premier League campaign on Saturday as they went down 1-0 at struggling Nottingham Forest.

Jurgen Klopp's men – also held 3-3 at home by Brighton and beaten 3-2 at Arsenal this month – had won their two league outings 1-0 before the contest at the City Ground, against Manchester City and then West Ham.

Meanwhile, their Champions League group games so far this term have seen them bounce back from a 4-1 loss at Napoli with three successive wins, including a 2-1 victory over Ajax and, most recently, a 7-1 thrashing of Rangers.

They face Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday but, when asked at his pre-match press conference if he felt Liverpool currently had greater vulnerability than in the past few seasons, Schreuder said: "No, I don’t think so.

"I think they are still a very good team, a top team, and we saw also the reaction after the defeat in the Champions League.

"I think if you see them in the last few games, against Rangers and against City, they showed top form and top quality. Of course they lost to Nottingham Forest, but could also have won, 4-1 or 5-1."

Napoli lead Group A and have already qualified for the last 16, while Liverpool, in second, will join them if they avoid defeat against third-placed Ajax.
