Airline criticised after female doctor said she could not use 'Dr' and 'woman' to book flight

British Airways has been criticised on social media after a viral tweet seemed to show their website not allowing the categories of ‘woman’ and ‘doctor’ to match. The tweet, sent out by Dr Jewel Kling, showed how she could not continue with her booking as the title ‘Dr’ she submitted did not match with being a woman - much to her surprise.

BA has blamed a technical issue and said it is investigating.

Dr Kling's tweet, posted on July 1, got thousands of shares, likes and comments with others claming that they had experienced similar problems with the airline when trying to book. Dr Kling explained the situation and said she was waiting on BA’s response.

“Apparently “Dr” and “woman” do not match on British airways,” she said.

BA said that there has been a technical issue and that it would be investigated. They have apologised for the problems on their website.

A spokeswoman for British Airways said: “We’re sorry for a technical issue that has occurred in one drop down box on our website and we're urgently investigating.”
