Agent: Giannis Antetokounmpo secures 3-year, $186M extension - ESPN

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed on a three-year, $186 million contract extension, his agent Alex Saratsis told ESPN on Monday.

The deal — which includes a player option for the 2027-2028 season — commits Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, to the franchise through the duration of guard Damian Lillard's contract and ends the possibility of him entering free agency in 2025.

The extension, which Antetokounmpo first announced on social media, is yet one more commitment out of the superstar to the franchise that drafted him out of Greece in 2013 with the 15th overall pick and nurtured his development into one of the most dominant forces in NBA history.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst traveled to Chicago on Sunday to meet with Saratsis and work through the details of the extension that could maximize Antetokounmpo's earnings over the course of his career. Antetokounmpo had an 11:59 p.m. ET deadline on Monday to sign the extension.

Because of the Over-38 rule in the CBA, Antetokounmpo can sign a short-term deal again with the Bucks in 2026 and another four-year extension in 2028.

Antetokounmpo is establishing himself as one of the greatest players in league history, a resume that includes a 2021 NBA championship and Finals MVP award and two times as the league's MVP. He averaged a career-high 31.1 points a season ago, and is one of three players in history with an MVP, a Finals MVP and a Defensive Player of the Year award, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon have also accomplished it.

The Bucks host the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday in their season opener.
