Agent fees: FA report reveals amount paid by Gillingham for the signing of Max Ehmer and how they compare to their League 1 rivals

Gillingham were again among the lowest spenders on agents' fees in the EFL - as revealed by the Football Association’s latest report.

Intermediary transactions of all clubs in the Premier League down to the National League System are registered for the period between February 2, 2021 and January 31, 2022.

Just one transaction was noted for the Gills after Max Ehmer, represented by Elite Management, rejoined the club from Bristol Rovers. The fees paid out totalled over £50,000.

The previous year the Gills didn’t pay out as penny in fees.

Premier League big spenders are Manchester City, who spent over £35m on fees, while Manchester United (£29m) and Chelsea (£28.2m) weren’t far behind.

League 1 clubs spent £4.4m between them in total and the Gills shelled out £54,053 on intermediary and agents’ fees, with that solitary transaction noted. Only Cheltenham Town (£38k) and Crewe (£3,750) spent less in the third tier.

Big spenders in League 1 were Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, both clubs nearing £800,000 each on fees.

Eleven clubs in League 2 spent more than the Gills, with Salford City, Bristol Rovers and Bradford City all into six-figure sums. In the National League System, Ebbsfleet United spent £15,200 on fees.
