Agent debunks reports Osimhen refused to sign new Napoli deal
Roberto Calenda, the agent of Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, has debunked reports that claimed his client wouldn’t sign a new contract.
The 24-year-old Super Eagles star was the leading man in the Partenopei’s Scudetto charge last season, playing a crucial role in breaking their 33-year wait for a league title, scoring 26 goals in 32 games.
Osimhen has two years left on his contract at Napoli and the club are keen to tie him down to a new deal amidst interest of some of Europe’s top clubs.
Denying a report by Naples-based newspaper, II Matiino, that Osimhen rejected a new deal offered by Napoli, Calenda said in tweet, yesterday: “I read in Il Mattino that ‘Calenda has no intention of renewing in the summer and that he wants to explore all avenues in the market first’. Fake news.”
Osimhen has been linked to clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in recent months, but he seems happy to commit his future to Napoli and pen a new contract.
Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not interested in selling the 24-year-old this summer and suggested that it would take upwards of €150m to sign the striker.
On Saturday, Napoli manager, Rudi Garcia, claimed Osimhen is ‘happy’ to stay at the club ahead of the new season.
The new boss of the Serie A champions also confirmed that defender Kim Min-Jae is leaving the club.
“I can guarantee that Osimhen wants to stay at Napoli. He’s happy here and he wants to do great things,” Garcia said.
“Of course, I have spoken to him,” the French tactician told Tuttomercatoweb.
“I can assure you that he wants to stay, he is happy to be with us and still wants to do great things.”
