African Games 2023: Umofia wins three gold medals for Nigeria in weightlifting

Nigeria’s Edidiong Umofia put up a memorable performance, winning three gold medals in Monday’s weightlifting event at the African Games 2023.

Competing in the 67kg, Umofia lifted 135kg in snatch and 165kg in clean & jerk for a total of 300kg.

His feat has now taken Team Nigeria’s gold medal haul to 10.

On Sunday, Nigeria’s six women wrestlers all won gold in their different weight categories.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori won Nigeria’s first gold medal when he defeated compatriot Godwin Olofua in the badminton final.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will hope to bounce back from their opening Group B game loss to Uganda when they face South Sudan today, Monday.
