AFN discovers ‘potential’ gold medalist in America as Okorie warns athletes of drug cheating

U.S.-based Marilyn Nwora may represent Nigeria at the Africa Games

As part of its strategic planning for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has warned athletes who fail to participate in the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana that they will not be considered for the Olympics.

The warning came yesterday, just as the America-based Performance Director of the AFN, Victor Okorie, said he has discovered a potential gold medalist, who is capable of scattering the existing African record in the women’s Hammer event.

“I want to inform you that we have made another ground breaking records by grabbing a female athlete, Marilyn Nwora, who will lead our chase for gold in the women’s hammer event this year. Nwora is an 18-meters thrower, and has thrown 18.14m this season. She is a student at Texas University, and currently doing her master’s. I am sure Nwora will break the African records being held by another Nigeria, Vivian Chukwuemeka,” Okorie stated.

Meanwhile, Okorie has explained reason for the decision to gather all the athletes for the African Games in Accra is intended to establish performance benchmarks for the Olympic Games.

“The decision will not be rescinded,” he warned.

He also advised the athletes that to undertake their compulsory drug test, saying: “The Honourable Minister wants our best at the All African Games in Accra, Ghana.”
