AFLW: Staunton on the mark in comfortable Giants victory
Cora Staunton was on the scoreboard as Covid-hit GWS Giants enjoyed a 43-22 win over Western Bulldogs in the AFLW.
The 40-year-old's first-half goal helped the Giants to a comfortable 21-point interval lead and while the Bulldogs fought to make the most of the strong breeze to dominate the third quarter, with almost the entire term played in their front half, they couldn't make any inroads on the deficit.
Bríd Stack had nine disposals in her fourth outing in the AFLW, but it was Nicola Barr, usually a defender, who was the unlikely hero at Henson Park.
Barr entered the match having never kicked a goal in her 33-game professional career, but ended it with three to her name in the 7.1 (43) to 2.10 (22) victory.
It was a day for defenders as Louise Stephenson, who had kicked just one goal in her 28 previous games, finished with two goals and an assist after also being stationed up forward.
