AFLW round-up: McCarthy ruled out for season, Considine kicks two goals

The West Coast Eagles have confirmed that Aisling McCarthy will miss the rest of the AFLW season due to a fractured wrist.

The Tipperary player picked up the injury in Friday's 27-24 loss to Geelong.

"Unfortunately, midfielder Aisling McCarthy will be unable to play out the season after fracturing her wrist in last Friday’s loss to Geelong," the club said ahead of Tuesday’s clash with St Kilda.

"McCarthy went down early in the first quarter and did not return to play, with the luckless Irish star set to be sidelined for the remainder of the season in a significant blow to the Eagles’ midfield."

Niamh Kelly came on and scored the first Eagles goal with her sister Grace Kelly also featuring as their comeback came short against the Cats, for whom Racheal Kearns had three disposals and two tackles.

Ailish Considine and the Adelaide Crows remain top of the pile as they made it five straight wins with a 51-12 success over Carlton on Sunday.

The RTÉ columnist had an excellent outing as she kicked two goals and, speaking to her club’s media on Monday, she said that she was enjoying her recent run of good form.

"The feedback from most of the coaches is just, 'keep doing what you’re doing and keep working hard and the opportunity will come'.

"I guess I’ve just been fortunate enough to get that opportunity the past couple of games and hopefully I’ve shown enough to keep playing my role for the team and keep getting a spot.

"I love playing no matter where it is - on the wing, half-forward, half-back - and I just take the opportunity the best I can, whenever that comes about."
