Adama Traore reminds Wolves what they are missing after making Barcelona return

Adama Traore impressed on the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee's second Barcelona debut against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

The winger assisted fellow academy graduate Gavi with a high cross from the byline after bursting past full-back Mario Hermoso, who was substituted ten minutes into the second half after being given a torrid time by Traore.

Gavi's header put the Catalan side ahead at the Camp Nou to turn around the reigning La Liga champions' early lead.

That completed cross was Traore's first assist since April when sending the ball in for Willian Jose's one and only Wolves goal against Sheffield United last season.

The Spain international was replaced just after the hour mark by another January arrival from the Premier League in the form of former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Barcelona saw out the 4-2 win despite being reduced to ten men when Dani Alves saw red and have now risen above their opponents into fourth place in the Spanish top-flight.

Bruno Lage spoke at length about Traore last Friday, explaining the reasoning behind the 26-year-old's departure.

“In the end, we need to understand the club was talking with him over a new contract,” said Lage. “I think one year is plenty of time to reach an agreement with him.

"The player had his own ideas, so the club found a way to protect themselves if Adama went to the end of the season with just one year.”

Lage added: “What I saw from Adama, especially in the last month - creating chances, assisting, scoring goals - I believe he has everything to have success in his hometown club.”

“I was happy with him, but I understand the club. We must wish Adama all the best.”
