Adam Scott branded 'no mark' at The Players Championship but world knows who he is now
Twenty-five years ago Adam Scott announced himself as a major force to the world – and an angry guy at a bar.
The Aussie is this week back at the scene of one of his first big wins; The Players Championship.
He loves golf’s so-called “fifth Major” and not just because of his Sawgrass success in 2004.
Not that he’s necessarily a fan of the clientele.
All those years ago, Adam had just shot an opening round of 65 to lead the championship.
But then he got a rude awakening as he went for dinner with his girlfriend to find fans talking about the tournament and one asked who was leading the tournament.
“The guy looked at him at said, `Some expletive no-name’. And it was me,” said the 45-year-old.
“My girlfriend at the time was ready to jump in there and let him have it.
“So it was good to go on and win and maybe get out of the no-name category.”
Scott can’t wait to lock horns with the world’s best.
The former Masters champion said: “I grew up watching this, seeing a lot of birdies and a lot of dramatic stuff happening. That’s exciting, and I think that’s why people like watching this tournament.
“You go out there with the dream that you can shoot 10 under somehow and spin balls back off slopes. And it’s not that easy once you’re out there.”
