AC Milan fear Manchester United move for Rafael Leao and more transfer rumours

AC Milan are looking to speed up their contract negotiations with Rafael Leao in fear that Manchester United are looking to make a move for their star forward, according to reports.

Though John Murtough has already said United will not be spending heavily in the January transfer market after a very expensive summer, Erik ten Hag's side is in need of attacking reinforcements. Scoring goals is becoming an increasing issue with just 13 to their name in the Premier League so far this season, less than 19th-placed Leicester City.

United have a severe lack of striker options with only the ageing and out-of-form Cristiano Ronaldo, the repeatedly injured Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford - who missed a glorious chance to beat Newcastle on Sunday - at the manager's disposal. Several forwards are being linked with a move as a result.

One of the names most heavily touted is Portuguese star Leao, whose 14 goals and 12 assists last season played a major role in Milan reclaiming the Serie A title for the first time on over a decade. According to the Express, Milan fears that United are 'plotting a move' after sending scouts to watch him against Chelsea last week.

It's reported that to combat any potential offer, Milan are hoping to tie Leao down to a new deal as soon as possible to secure their asset. The 23-year-old currently has a release clause said to be worth £130million but his deal is set to expire in 2024 and there is a worry they may have to cash in for significantly less if an extension isn't agreed upon.
