"Absolute shambles" - Journalist drops damning verdict on major developing problem at Chelsea

Chelsea could look to wrap up the signing of Jules Kounde quickly as they look to solve their defensive crisis, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Blues look set to make significant changes to their back line, with a number of defenders expected to leave the club this summer.

Antonio Rudiger is due to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of next month. Official confirmation is still needed from the Spanish giants, but it seems it is only a matter of time before Rudiger moves to the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen is also on his way to Spain. He will be moving to Barcelona once his contract at Stamford Bridge expires in June.

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also tempted to move to the Nou Camp, while full-back Marcos Alonso wants to bid farewell to the west London club, according to 90min.

Jones has suggested that Chelsea should be concerned by their current defensive situation, and he has tipped them to look to bring in the £54m-rated Kounde as quickly as possible to mark the start of a major re-build.

There are, without doubt, a lot of irons in the fire right now in terms of who they might be able to sign. Kounde, they still expect to be somebody that moves ahead quite quickly. Obviously, we are still waiting for the sanctions to be lifted. But once they are, I think this is going to be a big re-build.”

Chelsea are desperately short on numbers at the back right now heading into next season, and they need to rectify this if they are to compete with Manchester City
