Abdulfatai dethrones Kuti at youth table tennis championships

Abdulbasit Abdulfatai created an upset at the 2nd Daniel Ford Elite Youth Table Tennis Championships, as he ended the reign of defending champion, Matthew Kuti, 4-3 (7-11, 10-12, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9) to claim the U-19 Boys’ title. Rabiat Ayoola also emerged as the new U-19 Girls’ champion.

The two-day tournament, organised by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) and funded by UK-based real estate firm, Daniel Ford International, founded by Yemi Edun, featured 75 top players from across the country.

Kuti, aiming to become the first player to claim back-to-back titles, took a 3-1 lead in the final but was ultimately thwarted by Abdulfatai’s impressive comeback.
