Abbey Vale bring in seven signings ahead of new South of Scotland League season

Abbey Vale have made a magnificent seven signings ahead of the new season.

And one of the players making the move to Maryfield Park is defender Liam Patterson, who spent more than 15 years with Threave Rovers.

Also making the switch are Aiden Kerr, who was with Threave last season, Bryce Wilson, Fraser Glen, Josh McVinnie, Fraser Scott and Darren Tait.

Co-manager Allan Clark said: “Liam hasn’t played for a year due to injury but he’s a very experienced boy and he’s handled training no

problem. He’ll be a very good addition to the squad with his experience and reading of the game.

“We had high hopes of getting Aiden, especially with Threave going into the west as he has uni commitments and was struggling to commit.

“With him coming back into the South he was dying to come to us and we’re delighted to get him in. I think he’ll score a few goals.

“Bryce is experienced and has won the league with St Cuthberts. Fraser was with Queens under-18s and can play left back. He was a bit of an unknown before he came in but he’s done well in training and hopefully he can kick on this season.

“Josh has been playing in the Sunday league but has trained with us for a few seasons and we feel he’s ready to step up now. He maybe wasn’t quite ready before but hopefully he can kick on.

“Fraser has been at Heston and been out of the game for a year or two but he’s looked really good in pre-season. Darren was playing Sunday league as he worked Saturdays but he’s a player a couple of the coaches knew quite well. His work has changed so he can play Saturdays now and stuck out in a bounce game.”

Although there has been a swathe of new signings, only a few players have left the New Abbey club.
