AB de Villiers' record broken: Young Aussie topples Proteas great as fastest A-list centurion
Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk's maiden century saw him topple South African pyrotechnician AB de Villiers as the record holder of the fastest century scored in A-list cricket.
The 21-year-old smashed a 29-ball hundred in a losing cause against Tasmania for the South Australian Redbacks in the 50-over Marsh Cup match in Adelaide on Sunday, breaking the record by two balls set by Proteas great De Villiers against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015.
At the Wanderers on that day, 12 years ago, De Villiers, who was captain at the time, went on to score 149 off 44 balls in a 192-run partnership with Hashim Amla.
Incidentally, the first century in ODI cricket was scored by Dennis Amiss, on debut in the first ODI match ever. The Englishman scored 103 off 134 against Australia.
To put things in perspective, the latest feat from Fraser-McGurk included 23 boundaries of which 13 were sixes.
