Aaron Ramsdale reveals story behind animated Arsenal celebrations ahead of North London Derby

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has lifted the lid on the animated celebrations we have become accustomed to seeing from the 23-year-old. Ramsdale has enjoyed a superb first season with the Gunners as Mikel Arteta's side look to secure a vital top four finish in the Premier League this season.

Keeping 12 clean sheets in 31 domestic appearances this term, the former Sheffield United shot-stopper has often been seen marauding in front of away fans.

The Chesterton-born goalkeeper began his career with the Blades back in 2016, and has since enjoyed success at the Emirates, while retaining his love for the beautiful game.

"I've always been a huge football fan, love playing it, love watching it and I was speaking to Bukayo [Saka] about this the other day [when asked about his celebrations]," said Ramsdale.

"I was asking him what would he be if he wasn't a footballer and he asked me and I said a football fan. He said no wonder you celebrate like crazy!

"For one I'm often celebrating on my own, so the limelight is often on me, and then its the fans really who then become my team-mates. But also as well knowing from the positions I've been in that in recent seasons one goal wasn't enough.

"We might have then been pegged back so to get that 2 or 3 it's almost like a release. The stress and relief all sort of leave your body which allows me to celebrate. I just enjoy it!"
