The Champions League returned to action after its winter hiatus with the first round of the knockout stages.

And you could not have asked for a bigger match to kick off proceedings, with giants Paris Saint-Germain taking on Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes.

It was a chance to see the big names in action, with all eyes on Mbappe, the PSG man linked so heavily with a move to Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The frontman has maintained his focus was only on this match, not the possibility of playing for Los Blancos next season and he proved it with a scintillating display.

And it was Mbappe who won it for Mauricio Pochettino's side in injury-time, firing a winner through Thibaut Courtois' legs to take a 1-0 lead into the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Mbappe has established himself as one of the greatest players in world football, shining with Paris Saint-Germain since moving to the club from Monaco.

But things could have been much, much different for the global sensation as he came close to joining Arsenal in 2017.
