A new day for new records: Revision of F1's stats and facts coming out of Qatar

The Qatar Grand Prix was one to remember, and it lit up the Formula 1 record books, too.

Headlining the statistics and facts coming out of the race weekend is Max Verstappen winning his third F1 Drivers' championship and McLaren scoring their 500th (and 501st) podium finish.

McLaren team boss Andrea Stella said: "A fantastic day for the team as we achieve our 500th podium in F1.

"Both Lando and Oscar drove great races in difficult conditions to finish P2 and P3. A double podium rewards the team both trackside and at the factory for their brilliant work."

We look at how things have changed after the Grand Prix.

Facts and stats

- With his 49th career win in F1, Verstappen moves up to fifth on the all-time list for most successful drivers.

- The victory was Verstappen's 14th starting from pole position. It is the longest streak in F1 history of a driver converting his P1 starting position into a win.

- Verstappen bested Sebastian Vettel's 2011 record of leading 739 laps in a single season. The Dutchman has been at the front for 769 laps in 2023, with five Grands Prix remaining.

- Verstappen has now finished inside the points for 36 races consecutively. He is second on the all-time list behind Lewis Hamilton (48 consecutive points finishes).

- Only Hamilton has won an F1 race on more circuits than Verstappen: 31 v 24. With his win in Qatar, Verstappen surpassed Michael Schumacher's tally.

- In 2013, Vettel won the championship with a 155-point margin. Verstappen leads the 2023 Drivers' championship by 209 points!

- Verstappen secured the tenth hat-trick of his F1 career (pole position, fastest lap, win). He is behind Jim Clark (11), Hamilton (19), and Schumacher (22).
