"A bitter blow" – Pundit reacts to setback for Jesse Marsch at Leeds after major news confirmed

Patrick Bamford’s injury setback is a “bitter blow” for Leeds, according to former midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The £18m-rated striker had only recently returned from a three-month layoff but suffered another injury in just his third game back at Wolves earlier this month.

It’s been a rotten season for the ex-Chelsea youngster, who’s played just nine times in the Premier League following a number of issues throughout the campaign.

Firstly, an ankle problem at Newcastle saw Bamford miss the whole of October and November, only making his comeback as a late substitute against Brentford at the beginning of December.

He would mark his return by scoring a dramatic late equaliser but injured his hamstring when celebrating his goal and would spend another three months on the sidelines.

Bamford made a timely return for Jesse Marsch’s first game back, although he was an unused substitute in the defeat at Leicester. He would feature against Aston Villa five days later before making his first start since September in the victory over Norwich.

Another start would arrive the following week when Bamford was picked from the off against Wolves. However, his joy was short-lived when he was forced off just 23 minutes into Leeds’ 3-2 win.

Initially, Marsch didn’t appear concerned when asked about Bamford’s condition after the game, although the striker has since been ruled out for six weeks.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a bitter blow regarding Bamford because they didn’t rush him back. They took their time with him, and for him to pick up that injury against Wolves, 23 minutes into the game.

“If you’re talking about him being out for the next six games, he’s pretty much done for the season.”
