Reading are heading towards a very difficult summer transfer window in Berkshire with a number of players’ contracts running out.

The Royals will need to operate far more smartly in the transfer market this summer, to recruit under financial constraints and assemble a squad capable of staying up in the second tier next season.

Paul Ince’s remit in 2022/23 will be to keep them in the Championship and possibly nothing more, having performed reasonably well to guide them to safety at the business end of the season.

The Royals have utilised the loan market very well in recent years and will have to make the most of those contacts to supplement their squad this summer.

It remains to be seen which players will stay put and who will move on in the coming months, but most positions in the team are going to need addressing.
