Port Vale have a real opportunity to win automatic promotion to the third tier of English football after a five-year absence, a chance they will be desperate to take considering there’s so little time left in the 2021/22 campaign.

A successful 2022 thus far has played a big part in their rise up the table as well as an impressive defensive record, something they will be looking to build on in the latter stages of the campaign, though they will be conscious about how tightly packed the league is at this stage with a finish in the top seven not guaranteed yet.

This is something the coaching staff will be wary of and is the key reason why they won’t be reminiscing on their great work just yet, with the club’s recruitment last summer playing a considerable part in their rise.

Those that have been regulars this season will be fondly remembered at the fourth-tier side for years to come if they are able to achieve promotion this term – but others will be less memorable.
