76ers' Embiid to have knee scoped next week, says team official - ESPN
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee next week, a team official tells ESPN.
The procedure is being done with the goal of reducing the symptoms Embiid has been experiencing, and will allow him to perform at a higher level, sources said.
After being ruled medically unable to play in late February, Embiid and the 76ers started meeting with doctors and specialists to determine the course of treatment to alleviate his knee issues. This is the second surgery on his left knee in just over a year.
Embiid will be re-evaluated in six weeks, and is expected to make a full recovery, sources added.
Prior to being shut down for the season, Embiid experienced continued pain in swelling in his troublesome knee. He underwent multiple rounds of imaging and treatment in an effort to forge a path forward.
Embiid played in just 19 games this season due to the lingering issues with his knee, averaging over 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
Embiid — the 2022-23 NBA MVP — was selected as an All-Star in each of his past seven seasons prior to this one.
He played just 39 games last season after tearing the meniscus in the same knee.
Last summer, Embiid won a gold medal with Team USA, though he struggled for large portions of the Games while playing with a bulky brace on his knee.
