3 security staff charged with assault after star Sea Bears player injured at Winnipeg nightclub

Three security staff at a downtown Winnipeg nightclub have been charged with assault after a Winnipeg Sea Bears player was seriously injured earlier this month, police say.

Teddy Allen was hospitalized after he was assaulted at a downtown nightclub in the early hours of Aug. 3, the Canadian Elite Basketball League team previously said.

Three security people who worked at the establishment, age 35, 37 and 58, were arrested Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm, police said in a news release Thursday. They were all released on undertakings.

Police did not identify the nightclub but said it was on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues.

Allen has completed medical tests, received a diagnosis and is now at home healing, he said in a written statement released by the team on Thursday.

The assault "should never have happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason," Allen said.

"The thing about my life is that when I've been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I'm going to do now."
