£18m Crystal Palace star has been 'learning' from England legend

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has been learning from England legend Ashley Cole and ex-Three Lions defender Joleon Lescott, says journalist Tom Barclay.

The 21-year-old recently made his international senior debut, and Barclay has put his excellent development this season partly down to the education he has received at under-21 level from Cole and Lescott.

Guehi won his first England senior cap over the weekend after being handed a start in the 2-1 win against Switzerland.

It was his first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad having previously been a part of the under-21 set-up, where he worked alongside England U21 coaches Cole and Lescott.

It was well deserved, with Guehi enjoying a brilliant season at Palace after joining from Chelsea in an £18m deal last summer.

On WhoScored, he sits just outside the top five players when it comes to average match rating, recording a score of 6.77 after 28 league games.

Barclay has told GIVEMESPORT that Guehi is a good learner and has been taking a lot in from former England defenders Cole and Lescott.

Speaking to GMS, The Sun journalist said: “He’s like a sponge. He was just learning, particularly I’m told from Ashley Cole and Joleon Lescott at under-21 level.”

He looks like he is going to the very top, with the former Chelsea man still just 21 years of age.

Guehi has already captained Palace on a couple of occasions, showing his leadership skills, and has impressed manager Patrick Vieira overall.
