£13m Newcastle deal was an 'extraordinary piece of business'

Newcastle signing Dan Burn was an “extraordinary piece of business”, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Burn became Eddie Howe’s fifth and final January signing when he made the £13m switch from Brighton on deadline day.

It’s been some start to life in the North East for the boyhood Magpies fan, whose arrival has coincided with their climb away from the relegation-zone.

Their 1-0 loss at Chelsea on Sunday was their first with the big centre-back in their side, but they’d collected 13 points from a possible 15 available, conceding just three goals during that period, following Burn’s arrival.

According to WhoScored, only Matt Targett, Allan Saint-Maximin and Kieran Trippier have outperformed the defender this season, who’s averaging an impressive mark of 7.06 every game.

Burn already tops the most clearances (5.8) statistic, while he makes the second-most tackles (1.3) and third-most interceptions (1.3) in the Newcastle squad.

Furthermore, he played a huge part in Bruno Guimaraes first Newcastle goal recently, heading back across goal for the Brazilian to exquisitely flick home the winner against Southampton.

Unfortunately, Burn switching off allowed Kai Havertz to ghost in and score the winner for Chelsea last time out, but Downie has praised Howe for bringing him to the club.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Dan Burn, that’s an extraordinary piece of business. He’s a player who was desperate to come here because he’s obviously a Newcastle fan, he hails from the North East and Eddie Howe spotted that and knew that he would want to come here if they went for him.”
