£12.6m-rated ace's time looks to be up at Aston Villa - journalist

Journalist Josh Holland has claimed that Morgan Sanson’s Aston Villa career is as good as over after the signing of Boubacar Kamara.

Sanson was heavily out of favour this past season for Aston Villa, as he made just 10 appearances in the Premier League, with only three of them being starts, meaning that he featured for just 352 minutes in the entire 2021/22 league campaign.

There have been recent reports stating that the French midfielder would be open to leaving Villa in the summer transfer window, with Nantes supposedly keen on bringing him back to Ligue 1.

Villa have already announced the signing of Kamara from Marseille, which indicates that Sanson will slip even further down the pecking order – and Holland claimed whilst speaking with GiveMeSport that the 27-year-old’s Villa career is ‘more or less done’.

Discussing the futures of several Villa players, he said: “I think Tyrone Mings will be given another chance at Villa; I don’t think he’s been that bad to be sold. But Sanson, I think he’s more or less done.

“I think, apart from the main core of players, that’s Martinez, Digne, now obviously Kamara, Coutinho, Watkins and Buendia – I think they’re the only players that could be possibly safe from a massive reshape at Villa.”

Sanson, who is valued at £12.6 million (as per Transfermarkt), has arguably not been given a decent chance to prove what he can do at Villa since he signed in January 2021. He made just nine appearances in the second half of his first season at Villa and then just 10 appearances in the league in 2021/22.
