10 ways McDonald's has changed only those born in 80s and 90s will remember

Whether you're a fan or not, McDonald's is one of the most popular eateries in the UK and Manchester is no different.

Manchester has played a big part in the history of this global fast-food giant. The 100th UK restaurant - and the very first McDonald's in Manchester - opened on Market Street in 1984, while the first ever UK drive-through popped up in Fallowfield in 1986.

It's been 50-years since the first McDonald's opened in the UK. The restaurant opened in Woolwich, London, back in 1974, and would have appeared very different to how we recognise the fast-food giant today.

Since then, McDonald's has seen lots of changes to its look, logo, and menu. For instance, those born since the year 2000 will not remember The Hamburglar, the McDonald's Playground or even a time when they sold pizza?

So, to celebrate half a century of McDonald's in the UK, we've put together a fun list of things you don't see at the restaurants anymore. How many of these do you remember?

Now seeing this packaging is a blast from the past. These clamshell beauties were good for sauce lovers but were also an environmentalist's worst nightmare. However, breaking them up after the meal was also immensely satisfying.

In 1990, McDonald’s agreed to stop using foam for their burger packaging. However, they continued to use it in other items, like cups, for years to come. It wasn’t until 2018 that they made the promise to eliminate it from their global markets.
