Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Ravi Dahiya was his usual dominant self, Bajrang Punia did not have to struggle much while Gourav Baliyan was impressive in his campaign as the three Indians kept themselves in the reckoning for gold medals at the Asian Championship, on Saturday. Ravi, who hails from Nahri village in Sonepat, yet again showed his immense physical prowess and tactical superiority when he outsmarted Japan's Rikuto Arai (VSU) and pulled off a comprehensive 12-5 win over Mongolia's Zanabazar Zandanbud in the 57kg men's freestyle event.

Anshu Malik couldn’t repeat her last edition’s heroics. The girl from Nidani in Haryana’s Jind district, settled for silver after going down to reigning world champion (55kg), Japan’s Tsugumi Sakurai, in the final of the women’s freestyle 57kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar on Friday. Joining Anshu on the podium were Radhika who clinched a silver medal in the 65kg category, and Manisha who clinched bronze in the 62kg division.
IOA writes to CGF to discuss dropping of shooting, wrestling from 2026 CWG initial programme in next General Assembly
Indian Olympic Association on Friday described the exclusion of shooting, wrestling and archery from the initial programme of 2026 Commonwealth Games as "shocking" and asked the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) for a discussion in the matter at its next General Assembly. In a letter to CGF President Louise Martin, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta expressed dismay at the dropping of the "three popular sports in the world" from the initial list of 16 sports for the 2026 CWG in Australia. "It is really shocking for CGA India to know that these three very popular sports in the sporting world were ignored by the CGF," Mehta wrote in the letter.

Anshu Malik finally lost in the title clash after winning three earlier bouts in a dominant fashion to clinch a silver in the 57kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championships on Friday. Radhika also won a silver in 65kg category while Manisha bagged a bronze in the 62kg division. Anshu lost to Tsugumi Sakurai of Japan by fall in the gold medal bout.
