Bayern Munich's Champions League exit on Wednesday has turned the focus on the club's hierarchy and their surprise decision to sack former manager Julian Nagelsmann. The six-time winners drew 1-1 at home against Manchester City but went out 4-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, after a 3-0 first leg demolition in Manchester. Nagelsmann was sacked in late March with the club still in the mix for a treble. In six matches under Tuchel, Bayern have won two, drawn two and lost two, being eliminated from both the German Cup and the Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel is so fired up for Bayern Munich's Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City that the German has had trouble sleeping ahead of Tuesday's first leg. Tuchel takes Bayern to the Etihad Stadium looking to move a step closer to winning the Champions League for the second time. The 49-year-old led Chelsea to victory over Pep Guardiola's City in the 2021 final before being sacked by the Premier League club last September. Now Tuchel is working overtime to come up with a plan to beat Guardiola again.
Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have a Champions League score to settle against Thomas Tuchel, when the newly-appointed Bayern Munich boss visits the Etihad in Tuesday's quarter-final, first leg. Tuchel emerged victorious as Chelsea manager in City's first, and so far only, run to the Champions League final in 2021. That was also the closest Guardiola has come in 10 tries during spells at Barcelona, Bayern and City to land his third European Cup as a coach. Chelsea's 1-0 win in front of largely empty Estadio do Dragao in Porto due to coronavirus restrictions two years ago was a case of the apprentice outshining the master.
Bayern Munich were poised Friday to announce that they have sacked coach Julian Nagelsmann, replacing him with former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel just days before crucial Champions League and Bundesliga games next month. Bayern had signed Nagelsmann for five years just two years ago but nerves have been running high as the perennial Bundesliga champions are struggling to hold onto their lead in the league table. While Bayern have yet to officially announce the shock decision, German media have widely reported on the switch.
