Concerns over the water quality of the Seine have continued into the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a pre-race triathlon event there cancelled Sunday.
Poor water quality in the Seine caused swimming training for the triathlon to be cancelled on Sunday but organisers remain confident the races will be able to go ahead as scheduled.
The first training session for triathletes at the Paris Olympics was scrapped Sunday due to pollution in the River Seine, organisers said. Following a meeting "on the water quality" and tests, "a joint decision was taken to cancel the swimming part of the triathlon orientation," a Paris 2024 and World Triathlon statement said. The River Seine was declared clean enough for swimming in tests from mid-July, but doubts remained as to whether the waters would be fit for competition.
PARIS :Paris 2024 organisers are confident the triathlon events will take place as scheduled on Tuesday even though recent rainfall might lead to Sunday's swimming training session being cancelled due to concerns over the water quality in the Seine.
PARIS : The Seine was suitable for swimming six days out of seven between July 17-23, data showed on the day of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.
