Less than six months after giving birth to twins, Dipika Pallikal made the mother of all comebacks on Saturday when she teamed up with brother-in-law Saurav Ghosal and longtime teammate Joshna Chinappa to win the mixed doubles and women's doubles title at World Doubles Championships in Glasgow. Dipika, playing her first competitive event since October 2018, first clinched the mixed doubles title with Ghosal with a 11-6, 11-8 win over England's Adrian Waller and Alison Waters. An hour and a half later, Dipika and Joshna triumphed in the women's doubles final after a hard fought 11-9, 4-11, 11-8 win over England's Sarah Jane Perry and Waters.

An hour and a half later Dipika Pallikal also won the women's doubles gold (11-9, 4-11, 11-8) with her longtime partner Joshna Chinappa. Speaking about the achievement former India coach Cyrus Poncha said, "this is the biggest moment for Indian squash".

The 35-year-old, who teamed up with Dipika Pallikal to pocket the mixed doubles gold at the World doubles squash championships in Glasgow on Saturday, could have given the event a miss due to injury. In the lead up to the tournament, Saurav suffered a tear in his right adductor but still decided to give it a shot at the very last minute.

TOPS was formed in September 2014 to support elite athletes in Olympic sports but in the year of Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, players from non Olympic sports like squash have been added to the scheme in the past.

Dipika Pallikal may have been off the sport for over three years but the 30-year-old returned to competitive squash in style as she played a part in India winning two gold medals --- their first-ever --- at the PSA World doubles championships at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow on Saturday. Dipika first teamed up with Saurav Ghosal to pocket the mixed doubles gold defeating the English pair --- Adrian Waller and Alison Waters 11-6, 11-8. Dipika subsequently joined hands with Joshna Chinappa in the women's doubles final to get the better of England's Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters 11-9, 4-11, 11-8.

In mixed doubles, Dipika and Saurav Ghosal beat Wales' Joel Makin and Tesni Evans in an entertaining bout, taking the first game 11-9 before finishing the match with an impressive 11-5 win on Friday.
