UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar rode to victory at Stage 6 of the Tour de France to take the yellow jersey in one of the quickest Tour stages ever, and Eurosport cycling expert Sir Bradley Wiggins believes the tour is “over”. Defending champion and Tour favourite Pogacar has taken charge ahead of the race reaching the mountains, in the 109th edition of the Tour.
Tadej Pogacar launched a relentless challenge in the final stretch of the longest stage of the Tour de France to grab the overall lead on Thursday.
Wout van Aert’s thrilling attack on Stage 6 of the Tour de France has been questioned by Alberto Contador. An early attack from the Jumbo-Visma rider on the lengthy 220km stage saw him part of a three-man breakaway with Quinn Simmons (Trek-Segafredo) and Jakob Fuglsang (Israel-Premier Tech) opening up a lead of 3’55” at one stage. Ad/> However, the gap came down quickly, yet the Belgian persisted with his efforts, first dropping Fuglsang, then Simmons and refusing to drop back to the pack.
The 109th edition of the Tour has not even reached the mountains and defending champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) already has the yellow jersey on his back. On the race’s longest – and fastest – day, the Slovenian superstar zipped clear of his rivals to win the uphill sprint at Longwy as Belgium Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) conceded the yellow jersey in style.
Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) has withdrawn from the remainder of the Giro Donne in order to recover in time for the Tour de France Femmes. The 35-year-old secured wins in Stages 3 and 6 at the Giro, coming out on top in two sprint finishes to take her career tally to 32 stages in the Italian race. Ad/> The Dutch rider did not start Stage 7, however, with her team confirming her intentions to switch focus to the Tour de France Femmes, which starts on July 24.

Frenchwoman Juliette Labous soled to an extremely impressive victory on Passo Maniva at Stage 7 of the 2022 Giro Donne. Predominantly a flat stage, things became interesting as the riders reached the set of climbs in the final stages. It was young Norwegian rider Amalie Lutro was the one who went away and she did an excellent job in keeping the chasing pack at bay.
