Celina Liebmann has said it was a “big surprise” when she was handed a wildcard to the Speedway GP 2 event in Prague, with the German set to become the first female rider to compete in the series. In a bid to give young riders exposure to the same limelight as the senior riders, Speedway GP has decided to run a SGP2 event on Fridays, the first of which takes place this week in Prague. Ad/> Liebmann was handed a wildcard spot after impressing in recent events — and when she takes to the circuit she will be making history.
Leon Madsen has revealed he is slowly getting back to fitness after suffering with the flu in recent weeks, and is eyeing up top spot in Speedway GP. The 33-year old battled through illness and registered 12 championship points in the season-opening FIM Speedway GP of Croatia at the end of April, and after a two-week recovery period, stepped up again to claim a further 18 championship points in Warsaw last Saturday, where he finished second in the final behind Max Fricke. Ad/> Next up is the Prague FIM Speedway GP in Czech Republic, and he sits just two points behind series leader Bartosz Zmarzlik.
Bartosz Zmarzlik was left ruing a “junior” error in the semi-final of the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw. The double world champion was victorious at the season opener in Croatia last month, but could only place fifth in Poland on Saturday. Ad/> That was largely down to hitting a rut during the third lap of semi-final one, when looking to catch Max Fricke.
Mikkel Michelsen has provided an update on his condition after dramatically crashing out of the final of the Speedway Grand Prix of Poland. Michelsen was involved in a clash with fellow Danish rider Leon Madsen on the first lap as the two battled for second place behind Max Fricke in first. Ad/> The collision sent the 27-year-old flying from his bike across the track and into the safety barriers.
Australian champion Max Fricke was delighted with “one of those memories I will never forget” as he won the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw. Fricke took the win in front of more than 50,000 spectators at the PGE Narodowy on Saturday night. Ad/> A great start from Fricke had him beating Leon Madsen with the Dane pushed back into second, and Swedish rider Fredrik Lindgren took third.
Australian Max Fricke won a dramatic Speedway Grand Prix of Poland in Warsaw with a spectacular performance in a re-started final. Fricke finished ahead of Denmark's Leon Madsen and Swedish veteran Fredrik Lindgren.
There was a dramatic crash in heat 6 of the Speedway Grand Prix in Warsaw, Poland when Patryk Dudek collided with Jack Holder as the two men took a corner. Dudek appeared to lose control of his bike as his front wheel came up off the track and although Holder had the presence of mind to take some evasive action, a coming together was unavoidable. Ad/> Both men required treatment but were able to walk away from the incident.
