"Great Effort To Get Ahead Of Strong Teams In World": Jonty Rhodes On South Africa Reaching Maiden WTC Final

Former South African Cricketer, Jonty Rhodes on Friday shared his thoughts as his national team reached the World Test Championship for the first time since the start of this tournament. South Africa secured their place in the one-off final with a commanding performance in the first Test against Pakistan in Centurion. This victory marked the culmination of a successful campaign in the 2023-25 WTC cycle, during which the Proteas won eight out of 12 Tests. Their dominant 10-wicket triumph over Pakistan in the final Test of the series sealed a 2-0 victory and confirmed their top position on the nine-team points table.

AB De Villiers Hopes BCCI Allows Indian Players To Compete In SA20

South African great Ab de Villiers hopes the BCCI will allow Indian players to take part in the SA20 in the near future as it will only raise the profile of the young franchise-based league. Dinesh Karthik is set to become the first Indian cricketer to compete in the SA20 but that was only made possible when he announced his international and domestic retirement last year. The BCCI doesn't allow active players to take part in overseas leagues and as of now, the only way to play events outside India is by calling time on your career at home. Having said that, there is a growing trend of cricketers taking retirement in India to try their luck in the burgeoning overseas competitions.

South Africa Great AB De Villiers Hints At Comeback, Says: "Will Walk Out And Play..."

AB de Villiers wants to play "real cricket" again. Not in the high-pressure environment of IPL but somewhere "casual" to have a bit of fun and please his children. De Villiers retired from all of forms of cricket in November 2021 to spend more time with his family. The 40-year-old former South Africa captain is now involved with multiple projects in charity and broadcasting. He is also the brand ambassador of the ongoing SA20. But in a chat with Melinda Farrell on her Youtube channel, de Villiers let it slip that he wishes to play the game again.

Star Pacer's Injury Puts South Africa's Champion Trophy Squad In Jeopardy

South Africa's bowling resources have taken another blow, with Gerald Coetzee, anticipated to replace Anrich Nortje in the Champions Trophy squad, missing the Joburg Super Kings' (JSK) SA20 match against Pretoria Capitals. Coetzee is dealing with a hamstring issue and is casting doubt over his participation in the tournament for the coming weeks. ESPNcricinfo reported that his fitness is being closely monitored. Although no official explanation was provided for his absence, Coetzee had only recently returned from injury. Given the conditions on the ground, which favour his pace-bowling strengths, he was expected to feature in the playing XI.

South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje was on Wednesday ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a back injury. "Pretoria Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the remainder of the Betway SA20 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury," said Cricket South Africa in a statement.

South Africa Announce Squad For Champions Trophy, Include Veteran Pacers

South Africa on Monday included Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje in the Temba Bavuma-led squad for next month's Champions Trophy after the pacers recovered sufficiently from their respective injuries. Nortje sustained an injury on his big toe last month which ruled him out of the series against Pakistan while a groin strain in November forced Ngidi to miss the series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. South Africa, the semifinalists of the 2023 ODI World Cup, are placed in group B of the Champions Trophy. They will start their campaign against Afghanistan in Karachi on February 21 before meeting Australia in Rawalpindi on February 25 and their final group game is against England on March 1.

Pacers Unlikely To Give Clear Advantage To South Africa In WTC Final Against Australia: Jonty Rhodes

As South Africa prepares for its World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's, legendary cricketer Jonty Rhodes says the Proteas' pace battery is unlikely to give a big advantage to the side as Pat Cummins' team too is equally adept at handling the quick bowlers. The one-off Test will be played from June 11 to 15, with June 16 available as a reserve day if required. "Well, I don't think so. There is no advantage to South Africa. The Australians are adept at playing pace bowling. They have a battery of fast bowling whom South African batters will be facing at Lord's.

Rinku Singh Effect Still In South Africa, As The Glass Broken By His Six Remains Unrepaired

The first game of SA20 2025 was played between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town on Friday in Gqeberha. In the opening match, Cape Town emerged victorious by 97 runs as they posted 174/7 while batting first and then bundled out the Sunrisers for 77. During the match, MI batter Dewald Brevis, who scored 57 off 29 balls, hammered a huge six which brought back the memories of a gigantic six from India batter Rinku Singh in 2023. The Indian had hit a big maximum off Aiden Markram during a T20I match against South Africa in December 2023, which ended up damaging sightscreen of the press box.
