Paris Olympic double medallist Manu Bhaker may skip October's World Cup in New Delhi as the ace pistol shooter has decided to take a three-month break, her coach Jaspal Rana said. The 22-year-old Bhaker scripted Olympic history for India in Paris as she won a bronze each in the women's 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team event, in which she had paired with Sarabjot Singh. After the feat, the ace pistol shooter, who returned from Paris in the wee hours on Tuesday, is set to take a three-month break from the sport.
Two suspects — one in custody, one wanted on warrants — have been identified by RCMP in the fatal shooting that took place last week east of Calgary in what police are now describing as a fatal carjacking of a man who was trying to act as a Good Samaritan.
Ace Indian pistol shooter Manu Bhaker has set her sights on winning multiple medals at the Olympics in the future following her historic feat at the Paris Games. The 22-year-old scripted history to become the first Indian athlete in post-independence era to win two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games. Bhaker won a bronze each in the women's 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team event -- where she had paired with Sarabjot Singh. She also came close to winning a third bronze in 25m pistol before finishing a creditable fourth in Paris.
Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra believes there was a scope of "more conversions" for Indian shooters at the Paris Games but overall it was a campaign which they should be proud of. India clinched six medals overall with three in shooting as Manu Bhaker became the first ever athlete from the country post Independence to earn two podium finishes in a single edition of Olympics. Alongside winning a bronze medal in women's 10m air pistol, Manu grabbed another bronze in mixed 10m air pistol shooting with Sarabjot Singh as her teammate. India got another bronze when Swapnil Kusale finished third in the final of the 50m rifle 3 positions event in Paris.
As the Paris Olympic Games 2024 concludes, the Indian contingent returns with a low number of 6 medals, after winning seven in the Tokyo Games three years ago. Contrary to the last edition of the Olympic Games, India didn't have a single gold medal this time. Though Vinesh Phogat stood a chance at getting one, having qualified for the women's freestyle wrestling 50kg final, but her disqualification robbed the nation of that opportunity. When Abhinav Bindra, India's shooting legend, was asked about the country's lack of success, he gave an honest response.

India's campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 ended with six medals, a tally one short of the record total from Tokyo 2020. It is, however, India's third-best outing at the Summer Games after Tokyo 2020 and London 2012. Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, wrestling, table tennis and tennis are the 16 sports Indian athletes took part in at the marquee event. Athletics boasted the largest Indian representation with a 29-member squad. In shooting, India fielded their largest-ever contingent of 21 shooters.
