World champion Max Verstappen has given his support to rival Carlos Sainz after the Ferrari driver was hit with a 10-place grid penalty at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will start from pole position in Saturday's Las Vegas Grand Prix after posting the fastest time in Friday qualifying. Leclerc finished ahead of team-mate Carlos Sainz but with the Spaniard having a ten-place grid penalty imposed after Thursday's practice, world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull will start second. Mercedes' George Russell will be in third place on the grid alongside Alpine's French driver Pierre Gasly.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix suffered an embarrassing start when the first practice session on the new circut was abandoned after just nine minutes of racing on Thursday due to a loose drain cover. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz had his vehicle stop after hitting the cover, resulting in a red flag and damage to the front his vehicle. After some delay organisers announced that the session would not be resumed.
Max Verstappen secured his 17th win in a record-breaking season on Sunday, resisting early pressure from Lando Norris to triumph in an accident and incident-hit Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Red Bull's three-time world champion came home 8.277 seconds ahead of McLaren's Norris on a sunlit afternoon at a packed Interlagos circuit. Behind them, Fernando Alonso snatched third for Aston Martin by just 0.053 seconds from Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.
Max Verstappen continued his winning habit with another well-measured victory for Red Bull on Saturday when he triumphed in the sprint race at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The three-time world champion finished comfortably clear of McLaren's Lando Norris. Verstappen snatched the lead at the start and came home 4.287 seconds clear of pole-sitter Norris with Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez taking third ahead of George Russell of Mercedes and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Red Bull's triple Formula One world champion Max Verstappen beat the weather as well as his rivals to secure pole position for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in a qualifying session halted by what he called “insane” conditions at Interlagos on Friday.
Veteran drivers Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo both denied on Thursday that they were about to leave their teams to join Red Bull next season. Two-time world champion Alonso, 42, angrily hit out at claims he will depart the Aston Martin team to take Sergio Perez's seat alongside world champion Max Verstappen. He dismissed the speculation as "the normal paddock rumours from people who try to make fun of it and gain some followers (on social media)."
Max Verstappen has cast further doubt over whether Sergio Perez will remain at Red Bull next season.
