Indonesia Open: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Make Pre Quarterfinals; Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Bow Out

Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu roared back to form ousting home favourite Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in straight games in the opening round of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event in Jakarta on Tuesday. The double Olympic medallist and former world champion, who made first round exits from the last two events, took 38 minutes to prevail over her recent nemesis from Indonesia 21-19 21-15 and seal a pre-quarterfinal berth. PV Sindhu's Form Not A Concern, She Remains One Of India's Best: Pullela Gopichand

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu's lack of consistency after coming back from an injury should not be a cause of "concern", feels chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand. Sindhu suffered yet another first round exit on Tuesday when she lost to world number 1 Akane Yamaguchi in the Singapore Open. "She's very young in saying that she's just 26-27. It's a good age, there is no reason for concern," Gopichand told PTI in a virtual interaction. A silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics and bronze winner in the Tokyo Games, Sindhu suffered an ankle injury in August last year to be slipped out of top-10 in the BWF women's singles rankings. She remained out of action for four months because of that injury.

Defending Champion PV Sindhu, In-Form HS Prannoy Eye Good Show In Singapore

Defending champion PV Sindhu will look to bounce back after hitting a low at Thailand but in-form HS Prannoy will be brimming with confidence as the duo spearheads Indian challenge at the Singapore Open Super 750 tournament starting in Singapore on Tuesday. Things have not been the same for Sindhu since she suffered that ankle injury in August last year. She is slowly getting back to her best with a final and semi-final finish at Madrid Spain Masters and Malaysia Masters respectively being her best result this season. However, a first-round exit at Thailand Open following a narrow loss to Canada's Michell Li is not the right way to approach a tournament, which remains her last BWF world tour title.
