The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released spinner Abrar Ahmed and top-order batter Kamran Ghulam from the Pakistan squad for the first Test and he will now represent Pakistan Shaheens in the second four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A', which will start at the Islamabad Club on Tuesday, 20 August. Ghulam has been appointed as Pakistan Shaheens captain for the second four-day match.

After a historic Olympic record-breaking javelin throw gold medal at Paris Olympics 2024, Pakistan Test cricket head coach Jason Gillespie has invited Arshad Nadeem to the Pakistan dressing room. Stating that sharing his gold medal would be a "fantastic boost to the team", Gillespie sent an open invitation to Nadeem to visit the Pakistan dressing room. Nadeem threw a magical 92.97m throw to clinch gold, ahead of India's Neeraj Chopra, who finished with silver. In fact, Nadeem threw three of the four best throws of the final.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali took a dig at the International Cricket Council (ICC) after star batter Babar Azam retained his place at the top of the ODI rankings. Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed heaped praise on his spinners and termed them "genuine match-winners" ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi. Ahmed didn't reveal the playing combination for the opening match of the series and said it would be decided after assessing the conditions. "We will decide the combination after going to Rawalpindi and assessing the conditions there. Former Pakistan cricket team star Basit Ali believes that India and Pakistan should play bilateral series of hockey, javelin or kabaddi if BCCI and PCB fail to agree on a cricket series. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket for more than a decade due to political tensions. Ousted Bangladeshi lawmaker and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was given permission on Wednesday to remain with the national side in Pakistan by the de facto leaders who toppled his old boss. Shakib, a former Bangladesh captain, took office in January as a lawmaker for ousted ex-premier Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party after elections staged without any genuine opposition. He lost that job last week when parliament was dissolved after Hasina abruptly resigned and fled to India by helicopter in a dramatic conclusion to a student-led national uprising. One of those student leaders, 26-year-old Asif Mahmud, is now the de facto sports minister in an interim government and granted Shakib permission to remain with the team despite his ties to Hasina and the Awami League.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that spectators will not be allowed during the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh due to ongoing renovations at Karachi's National Stadium. The PCB made this decision in light of the ongoing construction at the venue, which is being prepared for the ICC Champions Trophy set to be held in Pakistan next year. In a statement released on Wednesday, the PCB said that fans won't be allowed in the Karachi Stadium for the second Test.
