Pakistan: High Court Issues Stay Order Against PCB Chairman Elections

The Balochistan High Court has issued a stay order on the elections for the new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman till July 17, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. The Court was hearing a case that claimed that the governing board of the PCB was formed in violation of the 2014 constitution. The Court did not hear the PCB's arguments and issued notices to all stakeholders to attend the next session. A number of writ applications were filed in several Pakistani courts on Monday morning, 24 hours before the election that might have resulted in Zaka Ashraf becoming PCB chairman, to suspend the entire process.

Pakistan Cricket Board Elections Delayed As Two Former Committee Members Approach Court: Report

The process to elect the new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman might be delayed with two members of the former management committee approaching the Lahore High Court. The Lahore High Court will on Monday head two petitions filed by former PCB management committee members Shakil Sheikh and Gul Zada against the election process to bring in Zaka Ashraf as the chairman and the legality of the Board of Governors which will elect the new chief. The petitioners have requested the honourable judge to stay the elections of the chairman and suspend the BOG until it gives a verdict on their petitions.

I Will Go With ACC's Decision On Hybrid Model: PCB's Soon-To-Be Chairman Zaka Ashraf

In less than 24 hours after he had officially "rejected" the 'Hybrid Model' for the Asia Cup after Asian Cricket Council's formal nod, Pakistan Cricket Board's soon-to-be chairman Zaka Ashraf did a complete 'volte-face' by accepting the four matches awarded to the original hosts. The Hybrid Model by virtue of which Asia Cup will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka will have India playing all their games, including two against the arch-rivals in the island nation. The model was proposed by Ashraf's predecessor and bete noire Najam Sethi and the banker, who will take over the reins of PCB on June 27 had "rejected" the idea during a media conference.

"I Can't Do Much": Incoming Pakistan Board Chief Softens Asia Cup Stance

A fresh Asia Cup 2023 controversy seemed to have erupted on Wednesday after the incoming Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf slammed the 'hybrid model', suggesting Pakistan should be hosting the entire tournament themselves. The current setup sees Pakistan and Sri Lanka both hosting the continental tournament, but Ashraf wasn't happy seeing the islanders getting the better chunk of games. As his comments became a huge topic of debate among cricket fans on social media, Ashraf softened his stance, suggesting now that the decision has been made, he "can't do anything about it".

The announcement clears the way for Zaka Ashraf to again take over as PCB chairman.

Najam Sethi Casts Fresh Doubts Over Pakistan's Participation In World Cup In India

Pakistan Cricket Board's chairman Najam Sethi on Friday cast fresh doubts over their participation in the ODI World Cup in India, saying it is "subject to government approval", putting the ICC in a bind before the schedule for the mega event is finalised. Sethi's comments came after every stakeholder, including Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Jay Shah, agreed to organise the upcoming Asia Cup in a hybrid model, as proposed by the PCB chief. "As far as India and Pakistan go, neither the PCB or the BCCI can take decisions. The respective governments only can take decisions," Sethi said during a press conference.
