Suspended Paralympic Committee Of India To Conduct Polls On March 9

The suspended Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) on Sunday announced that it will conduct its delayed polls March 9. The Sports Ministry had on February 4 suspended the body for not holding election on time. The four-year term of PCI Executive Committee had ended on January 31. The ministry had even advocated forming of an ad-hoc panel to run the day-to-day affairs of the sports body but the world governing body of the game, IPC did not allow it. PCI president Deepa Malik and general secretary Gursharan Singh issued the election notice in which they asked all the state affiliated units to send the names of representatives, who would be eligible to vote in the polls.

Top Indian hammer thrower Rachna Kumari was on Tuesday banned for 12 years for failing multiple dope tests by the international federation's Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), essentially ending her career. The 30-year-old Kumari's dope sample, taken out-of-competition by the AIU last year, was found to contain steroids Stanozolol, Metandienone and Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT), Clenbuterol. "The AIU has banned Kumari (K.M.) Rachna (India) for 12 years from 24 November, 2023 for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Stanozolol, Metandienone, DHCMT, Clenbuterol). DQ results from 24 September 2023," the AIU said in a tweet.

A Mexican bullfighter was fighting for his life on Monday after being gored in the neck over the weekend during a show in the central state of Tlaxcala, medics said. Jose Alberto Ortega was kneeling when he was charged by the bull on Saturday, leaving him lying wounded in the ring before he managed to get up and run behind a barrier.
