Veteran sports administrator Narinder Batra on Monday resigned as President of International Hockey Federation (FIH) and also gave up his membership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Batra ceased to be President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) when the Delhi High Court, on May 25, struck down the post of 'Life member' in Hockey India, courtesy which he had contested the IOA elections and won back in 2017.

Former world championship silver medallist Anjum Moudgil had qualified for the ranking round in the women's 3P on Saturday, completing sixth in the qualifiers. She was a little underwhelming towards the beginning of the ranking round on Sunday and after the first 10-shots in the kneeling position, was fifth out of eight shooters.

Young Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa won the Paracin Open 'A' chess tournament 2022 in Serbia on Saturday, scoring 8 points from nine rounds. The 16-year-old remained unbeaten and finished half a point ahead of the field. Alexandr Predke took the second spot with 7.5 points ahead of Alisher Suleymenov and India's AL Muthaiah, who both scored 7 points. This was the youngster's second ISSF World Cup gold and India's fourth of the competition, helping them hold on to the top spot in the standings.

A Commonwealth Games weightlifting champion and Olympian has become the first Covid-related death in the tiny Pacific island republic of Nauru, the world's second smallest nation. "Reanna Solomon, only 40 years of age, lost her life as a result of the Covid-19 virus," the Oceania Weightlifting Federation said in a statement Thursday.
