Star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth bowed out of the India Open Super 750 tournament with a straight-game loss to Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu after yet another erratic performance in New Delhi on Wednesday. A flurry of brilliant shots was sandwiched between a series of unforced errors during the 47-minute opening round clash as Srikanth went down 22-24 13-21 to world no. 18 Lee. Srikanth made a good start in the opening game, playing some fine strokes from the back court to keep his nose ahead. Chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand on Tuesday advised Indian players to not to obsess over Paris Olympic qualification, urging them to focus on the process without taking "unnecessary pressure". Paris berths will be sealed on April 28 when the Olympic qualification rankings are out with singles players inside the top 16 making the cut. "I think Olympics is still a long way. There are still about eight tournaments to play. I don't think it's right to go after that as a player," Gopichand told reporters. "I think it's too much pressure unnecessarily to start thinking about the race to Paris as a primary role.
Elizabeth Yeager converted a penalty corner in the second half as United States eked out a fighting solitary goal victory over New Zealand to storm into the semi-finals of the FIH Women's Olympic Qualifier with an all-win record on Tuesday. Yeager found the back of net in the 17th minute from USA's third penalty corner in their final Pool B match. New Zealand started on a positive note and made some good moves to enter the American circle initially but lost the momentum as the match progressed. After having weathered the early pressure from the Black Sticks, the American got their footing into the match and secured their first penalty corner in the eighth minute, only to be denied by the side bar.

Around a dozen of Executive Council (EC) members of Indian Olympic Association alleged that president P.T.Usha "exerted pressure" on them to pave the way for Raghu Iyer's appointment as CEO, a charge that the legendary athlete termed "shameful". Usha had issued an official statement on January 6 about the appointment of Iyer as CEO but 12 out of 15 EC members said that former Rajasthan Royals' chief executive's recruitment "hasn't been ratified" by the apex body.
