The Blackcaps have already lost their captain Kane Williamson in this series to Covid, as he had tested positive on the eve of the second Test match.
New Zealand will be without injured pace bowler Kyle Jamieson for the third and final Test against England, adding to their gloom after conceding the series in Nottingham on Tuesday. Soon after losing the second Test at Trent Bridge by five wickets, handing England an unassailable 2-0 lead, Black Caps management confirmed Jamieson will return home after a scan revealed a stress reaction in his lower back, suffered while bowling on the third day. Known for his bowling skills, Boult has now scored the most runs by a player batting at number 11 in Tests. Boult scored 17 runs in the 2nd innings, taking his tally to 640 runs while batting as the 'Jack'. Boult went past former Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who had scored 623 runs at the number 11 spot. Boult had also scored 16 runs in the first innings.

Trent Boult and Henry Nicholls may miss New Zealand's first Test against England despite being named in the squad for the clash starting at Lord's on Thursday. Boult played in the Indian Premier League final for Rajasthan Royals on Sunday and is unlikely to recover in time for five days of Test cricket. Nicholls has had a disrupted start to the tour of England due to injury problems and a bout of the coronavirus. "We'll see how Trent scrubs up but I've had conversations with him leading up into this. It's part of the world and the way it is right now with the complexity of putting schedules together," New Zealand head coach Gary Stead told reporters on Monday.
