India's Murali Sreeshankar on Sunday won a silver medal in the Men's Long Jump Final with a best finish of 8.19 meters at the ongoing 19th Asian Games. Meanwhile, Jeswin Aldrin finished in 8th position in the same event with a best jump of 7.76m. China's long jumpers took home gold and bronze as Wang Jianan finished at the top of the podium with best jump of 8.22m, while Shi Yuhao bagged third spot with 8.10m. Sreeshankar started his event with a failed attempt however he recovered well and in his second attempt, with a jump of 7.97 metres. Sreeshankar with a fantastic jump crossed the 8-metre mark and landed a jump of 8.01m. With this leap, he jumped up to the second position.
Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan has said that Sachin Tendulkar was a "genius from day one" and no cricketer can be like the Indian batting maestro. Muralitharan, who has the highest number of wickets in international cricket, told ANI in an interview that the upcoming biopic ‘800' is not only about his cricket but also about what happened beyond the game. The bowling legend talked about his cricketing duels with Sachin on the pitch and how he wished that the Indian batter got out quickly.
Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan said that Indian cricket is in good shape because of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has given the country a lot of cricketing talent. Muralitharan in an exclusive conversation with ANI talked about cricket, Sri Lanka, the movie '800', an upcoming Indian Tamil language biopic on him etc. "It (IPL) has given players something to look forward to. It has given them a lot of money and opportunities. IPL has given a lot of talent to India as well. There are so many talented players. Now, like the IPL, many leagues like the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) have started. Players from here get selected to play IPL as well. Indian cricket is in good shape because of IPL," said Muralitharan.

Star Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has pulled out of the prestigious Diamond League Final in USA later this month to focus on the Hangzhou Asian Games beginning on September 23. Sreeshankar made the decision after taking into account that he would need a lot of travel if he has to take part in the September 17 DL Final in Eugene, which may have an impact on his body and disrupt training. "Sreeshankar is not taking part in the DL Final in Eugene to focus on the Asian Games. Taking part in the DL Final will involve a lot of travel, jet lag etc," Sreeshankar's father S Murali told PTI.
