Focus On Indian Shooters' Performance In World Cup Ahead Of Paris Olympics

Away from the oppressive Indian summer, the country's shooters would be hoping to further fortify their preparations ahead of the Paris Olympics when the ISSF World Cup (Pistol/Rifle) commences in Munich on Saturday. Several shooters, who recently appeared in the gruelling nearly month-long trials in New Delhi and Bhopal, were keen to skip the World Cup because of "fatigue" and to focus on their Olympic preparations. But with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) making participation in WC compulsory, and also reportedly thrashing out the contentious issue of personal coaches with the shooters, the Paris-bound pistol and rifle marksmen would like to use this last competitive outing to gauge their preparations for the Olympics.

Sports Ministry Okays Vinesh Phogat's Request To Include Strength and Conditioning Coach in Hungary Training Camp

Sports Ministry's Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) have approved Asian Games gold medallist wrestler Vinesh Phogat's proposal to include strength and conditioning coach Wayne Patrick Lombard for the international training camp in Hungary from June 10 to 21. "Vinesh, who will be competing in 50kg division in the Paris Olympics, had requested for assistance towards Lombard's airfare, visa fees, board and lodging and local transport in Hungary," the ministry release read. She will also be competing in the United World Wrestling 2nd Ranking Series - Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial from June 6 to 9 in Budapest.

Manu Bhaker Emerges Most Successful Shooter in Olympic Selection Trials

Olympian shooter Manu Bhaker emerged as the most successful athlete in the Olympic Selection Trials (OST) Rifle/Pistol, winning the women's 10m air pistol OST T4 match on the concluding day of the exercise in Bhopal on Sunday. Overall, this was Manu's fourth win in the trials across two events, the other being the women's 25m sports pistol. Manu shot 240.8 in the OST T4 10m air pistol final at the MP State Shooting Academy ranges, leaving Hangzhou Asian Games champion Palak a huge 4.4 points behind in second. Rhythm Sangwan took the third spot.

Legendary pistol marksman Jaspal Rana has expressed grave concerns over the delay in naming the Indian shooting contingent for the Paris Olympics, saying it will leave the selected shooters with little time for the final phase of preparations. Several countries, including the US and Italy, and many European powerhouses have announced their squads and their shooters are in the final phase of fine-tuning their skills and programs for the Olympics, even as India commenced its nearly month-long exercise on Friday.
